Casino glossary: RTP, wagering, KYC, GGR and NGR
Plain-language definitions for reading game information, bonus terms and affiliate contracts.
RTP and volatility
Return to player (RTP) is a theoretical long-run return over a very large number of plays. It does not predict a session. Volatility describes the variation in outcomes. A high theoretical return does not make a session profitable or a future win due.
Wagering requirement, base and contribution
A wagering requirement is qualifying turnover expressed as a multiple of a defined base. That base might be the bonus alone or deposit plus bonus. Game contribution is the percentage of a stake that counts. If contribution is 20%, a €10 stake counts as €2 toward the requirement. Completing wagering does not guarantee a positive balance.
Maximum bet, maximum cashout and expiry
A maximum bet restricts stake size while a promotion is active. Maximum cashout caps the amount eligible for withdrawal under the offer. Expiry limits the time to claim or complete it. These are separate restrictions and should be read together.
KYC and payment ownership
Know your customer (KYC) refers to identity checks. Payment ownership checks establish whether a funding or receiving account belongs to the player. Requested documents and processing steps depend on the operator, jurisdiction and situation. Only upload sensitive documents through a verified secure channel.
CPA, revenue share and hybrid
Cost per acquisition (CPA) compensates a contractually qualified acquisition. Revenue share applies a percentage to a defined revenue base. Hybrid combines the models. Neither a headline CPA nor a percentage explains deductions, qualification criteria or payment timing.
Negative carryover and attribution
Negative carryover concerns whether a negative balance transfers to a later reporting period. Attribution assigns an acquisition to a source under agreed tracking rules. Confirm both in writing; definitions and exceptions differ by contract.
Terms that are often confused
Read each definition in its contract or game context. Similar labels can conceal materially different calculations.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Deposit | Money added to an account |
| Turnover | Total stakes, including any replayed winnings |
| GGR | Stakes minus player payouts, under the report definition |
| NGR | Revenue after the deductions specified in the agreement |
An example of turnover
A €20 balance used for ten €2 bets produces €20 of stakes. If €10 of winnings is then wagered again, total turnover becomes €30. Turnover is not the same as deposits or net losses.
